I have to disagree - that "Dance At The Gym" is completely emasculated - ugh! Performed and mixed poorly, absolutely none of the post-swing era swagger that it's supposed to have. To me, it is absolutely NOT the best recording. For all it's faults, the original Broadway cast recording has so much more, um, cojones! :^) But that's just me, of course!
This is the best available and most complete recording of Bernstein's masterful musical. It has more music than the original cast album or the motion picture soundtrack, and the voices are far more appropriate to their roles than Bernstein's own later recording with a cast of opera stars. Bonus tracks here include alternate movie versions of some of the songs. If you want a West Side Story, then this is the one to get. Too bad eMusic did not tag Leonard Bernstein's name anywhere here as this makes the album harder to find.
