The best SYR since vol. 1

"J'Accuse Ted Hughes" is an amazing and infamous performance from the NYC GHOSTS & FLOWERS tour that complements that album perfectly. If you agreed with Pfork's review of said album, then stay away from this. But if you love the outersides of the Youth, then dig right in. Side B is a near-ambient piece that serves as the appropriate comedown.

Sucklechimp

The first track will smack you in the face, the second track explores very rare territory for Sonic Youth - ambient music. Please download this!

These little recordings from their offshoot label are the best SY recordings (aside from the streaming mixtapes on their Website) because they don't have to satisfy the requriments of a "record," which often fall short because, frankly, I find "songs" boring. Thus I love this latest.

They do one thing and they do it very well: loud, dense, atonal art-rock that's fused with tight guitar hooks and hummable melodies - even though none of the singers have proper singing chops and they've rarely played in standard guitar tunings. But… more »
