Oxford Collapse, The Hann-Byrd EP

The latest EP from the Brooklyn group Oxford Collapse finds them expanding and developing their proven guitar-rock template. There's still the tangles of jangles, the yearning, throaty vocals, the oblique, sideways hooks. But it sounds tougher and tighter and more formidable — "Amongst Friends" even inches slightly toward pop — a sure winner for fans of the too-seldom-revived sound of early '90s indie rock.
