Running Out Of Superlatives...

FlyTherapy

It's hard to come up with new superlatives, adjectives, and words like 'haunting,' when describing 16 Horsepower. Fans of David Eugene Edwards and Woven Hand will be forever missing the perhaps straighter, blunter edge of his old band, and this set illustrates why. Again, it's hard to find a new set of 'dark' 'mysterious' words to describe what can only be listened to as a musical peeling back of the great cloak between good and evil. Simply amazing. Wish I could have seen them live.

I could listen to DEE cover every song

heathergalaxy

The standout tracks for me here are the Partisan, Straw Foot, Poor Mouth, I Seen What I Saw, and, of course, Wayfaring Stranger. Seriously I want David Eugene Edwards to cover every song in the world (and play his songs) a million times over. I never get sick of hearing a new version of a song I've heard when it's sung by that man.

Old Testament Blues

I've been a fan of 16 HP since I heard of them on a CMJ Music Sampler back in the late 90's. I'm constantly amazed at Edward's ability to keep the imagery and instrumentation fresh considering that he's working with such "ancient" material. If King David or Isaiah were still alive, this is the music they would be making. It is music that leaves you shaking in your God-fearing boots. And I love it.

16 Horsepower ROCKS

propanejonny

16 Horsepower is intense. This album will reach out and bring you in. Very powerful & mystical in its mellow yet heavy way. They don't need some fancy studio to make them sound good, they just are.
