mediocre sound scapes

Tezby

Visit the Airports web site and you'll discover that this was a site specific project for listening at Brisbane Airport. Listened to at home, however, its more a soundscape than music with long silences and the occassional flutter of sound. Very little in the way of obvious manipulation. Tim Hecker track only standout.

Takes me back to childhood.

AmberV

By the time I was 10, I was already a world traveller. Much of my childhood was spent in airports, on planes, and driving around in various countries. Consequently, the ambient sounds of an airport; the whine of jet engines; the smells; and even the tones used by air attendents and public address announcers, have a soothing effect on my mind---much like I would imagine a child having grown up near a beach would find comfort in the sounds that accompany coastal regions. This collection of songs, all using ambient airport and air travel sounds has an incredibly soothing impact to me. I suppose all of this is largely irrelevant to the reader, except in that it conveys its theme well and portrays a good variety of sounds and moods. There are a few repetitions, but that shouldn't bother anyone who would otherwise enjoy the work of these artists anyway. We already enjoy subtle variations on a theme, so when two artists use similar methods and samples, it is not redundant. Well worth getting.

Not a Fennesz title

Guts

This album is awesome, I own a hardcopy edition of it and highly recommend it. Lots of great artists contributing some thoughtful and clever work. But I wouldn't consider it to be a "Fennesz" album, it's really more of a VA title. If it had to be attributed to one person - the most likely would be Lawrence English since, from what I understand, this was his baby.
