More than just Jon Brion

This is a great power-pop CD. It is Jon Brion's first work and for that alone it is a treat. But Bill Murphy is an outstanding producer and this record is dazzling, standing up well next to the best of Todd Rundgren. Don Fertman is solid on bass as well. If you like catchy songs, crunchy guitars and great production, download this now.

A Must-Have Anyway

While this is just a nice little power-pop album, the real reason you have to have this is to hear Jon Brion's embrionic (sic, but who cares) compositions and vocals. Does he sound like he's the kid on the cover? No, even at this stage, he's ahead of his years. "Something Ventured" points the way to his more mature work with Aimee Mann and The Grays.
