The Lilys’ Zero Population Growth is Volume 15 of Darla Records’ Bliss Out series — one-off collections of the bleepy, gentle electronica on which the label tends to concentrate, along with its more standard indie releases. Lilys fans should take this as a warning: the record has almost nothing to do with the band’s regular album releases, drifting instead through six tracks of burbling, pop-oriented electronics. The results aren’t as dynamic or engaging as the work of some outfits who compose entirely in this vein, but that doesn’t seem to be the real aim of the blissouts.
