San Francisco's Lonelyhearts — the songwriting team of John Lindenbaum and Andre Perry — write songs full of heartache and longing. Broad acoustic strums carry bleak, lazy melodies — a portrait of epic disenfranchisement, languid and sublime.
This album continues to amaze me every time I listen to it. It manages to capture a sense of loss and longing, a feeling of damage, disassociation and disfunction, which you could say many bands try for but few manage to do this well. This is somehow different and it's more than the sum of its parts. For me it peaks with Concrete and Chrome. I just don't know what it is about this record and it's a shame the band was so short lived and no longer exists. This is their best stuff. Devastatingly brilliant.
Try re-downloading them, sometimes it's a bad transfer. Hope that fixes it!
Bad rip, cant believe I'm the first to mention it? Track 2 jumps about 3 times, starting 7sec in. Emusic, please redo? Great CD, sounds like a home rip though...
On just one listen this album had me going right back to the top to listen through again. It moves around enough that you almost think you've got different bands at work, but holds together enough to maintain a sense of theme and an 'arc', so to speak. In all, it's just a really good album. pick it up. Good luck getting that 'hanging pictures on sorority walls' lyric out of your head (or maybe it's just me).
A completely amazing band. Their harmonies and riffs are beautiful and catchy. Download everything.
I have been listening to this album for the last two days. Harlequin Dreams and Complicated Men have me humming at work.
