Charlie Hunter is a jazz guitarist known for playing incredibly intricate parts using custom-made seven and eight string guitars. On Baboon Strength, he went for an old-school feel, recording to 16-track two inch tape in addition to bringing in some vintage warm-sounding keyboards to fill out the sound. The album has a loose and funky feel, especially on album opener "Athens" and four-on-the-floor groover "Welcome to Frankfurt."
