A fingerpicker in the Fahey mold, Michael Chapman has been showing off his (considerable) solo acoustic skills for years. His latest, Time Past & Time Passing, keeps it mostly instrumental, with a serene, wet reverb coating his plaintive pickings. When Chapman does sing, his husky vocals give the songs a weathered feel — it's an immediate gut punch. This is music for lovers of old-time music made anew.
