Recorded in Brooklyn and Bogotá, Picotero is a stomping, stuttering declaration of Colombian dance-music independence. Electronic duo Monareta — AKA Andrés Martínez and Camilo Sanabria — have been screwing with Colombian styles, Caribbean rhythms and Western beats since 2003. Picotero, which often sounds inspired by the likes of Tijuana's Nortec Collective or Austin's Charanga Cakewalk, marks their first release that's not digital-only.
