The seven-inch single is the perfect format for Brooklyn quartet caUSE Co-MOTION!, specialists in the kind of zippy, blink-and-you'll-miss-it lo-fi pop that always seems on the verge of epic collapse. Their debut release on the fantastic Slumberland label — home to the Crystal Stilts and the Aisler's Set — It's Time collects the quartet's vinyl single releases over the past four years. While some of the hyperactive thrill is lost in the move to long-play, this 14-track primer is still an excellent reminder of how deeply satisfying an unpretentious, well-executed, crash-filled, ninety-second pop song can be. It is impossible to sit still through the early-Who windmills of "Baby Don't Do It," the skittering surf scamper of "This Time Next Year" or the ferocious head-bobs of "Say What You Feel," each featuring a lovely, possibly irrational wash of reverb and Arno's charmingly flat vocals. "Who's Gonna Care" is a modern-day shamble-pop gem, Arno and a stinging guitar line taking turns chasing each other for a hundred glorious seconds.
