She Swings, She Sways, Wasted Love Songs
2008 | Label: Authentic Records / Iris

Iowa's She Swings, She Sways often says they make "Midwestern music." While not a particularly helpful descriptor of what the six-piece actually sounds like, it does nail the ho-hum, politely pretty approach they take on Wasted Love Songs. A twinkling set of country-folk, Wasted breezes along on a set of lilting harmonies and unhurried shuffles. Album opener "What I Wouldn't Do" is probably the album's highlight — a shimmying folk-pop number with great high-harmonies.

Real Slow Grower

And so worth it. Start with the free track and buy the rest. I was surprised how this grew on me over a couple of years. If this isn't enough, there is a free EP out there (Porches) from 2010. Sadly, the band broke up in 2010.

Not bad.

Though the rest of the album doesn't quite recapture the wonderful sound of "What I Wouldn't Do", "Lullaby", "Flown the Coop", and "Rabid Abigail" are great tracks in their own. Initially I was disappointed with this album, but the more I listen to it, the better it sounds. It still isn't my favorite album or artist, but at least those 4 songs are worth checking out. One last note, some of the album's latter songs reminded me of Toad the Wet Sprocket or some other 90's band for some reason. Probably just a personal thing...

Sounds a lot like a group from Oregon called Dolorean especially in 'Lullaby', easy beat, catchy grooves in a down home country package...

Of all the music I've discovered on eMusic, this is one of my favorite bands... and wouldn't you know, I recently noticed that the local cafe had an autographed photo of the band eating there!
