Incredibly amazing

Hillhouse

I haven't been this excited about a band in a long time. Moody, broody, original goodness. Gets under your skin instantly. I've had this album happily on repeat all day long. Not a bad song on it.

Excellent. Re-Defining

DudeItsHardArt

I was/am a huge fan of Microcastle but I appreciate the avant garde-ness of this release. Bradford continues to push the edges of pop-rock to the extremes. You'll be surprised at what you find catchy about this album. Love Vox Humana. Constant pulsing piano throughout a la Two Weeks by Grizzly Bear. Weird. But then again, that's the Era we're exploring here, isn't it?

Better than Microcastle

JBB

This is the one to get. Weird Era Cont is the sister album of Microcastle (and its predecessor), but it consistently more compelling... with less fluff pop.

Wow! I just love this band!

As a guy in his early 40's who loves rock music, the genre’s recent offerings have been worse than lacking. Luckily, I found out about this band. The release prior to this, Microcastle, was spectacular. Somehow, this one manages to be even better - no mean feat. Deerhunter has a knack for crafting catchy songs that will haunt you all day long. This is a smorgasbord of inventive pop goodness, with one tune after another launching the listener (ok, me) into sheer audio bliss.

Glad to see eMusic got a hold of this. Great companion to Microcastle. Check out Operation, Vox Humana, VHS Dream, and of course Calvary Scars II. Just download the whole thing, already!

Ear Candy !!

Deerhunter's latest Emusic offering sounds awesome! There is a nice mix of styles on here. I wish I could go into detail on a track by track basis, but I don't think ya'll want to read a novel! Short version is I like every track on this album, and would highly recommend it for download, you will not be disapointed!

eMusic Guide to Kranky Records

By Joe Muggs, eMusic Contributor

Kranky's great skill is escapology; it's practically defined by its ability to evade definition. If there is received wisdom about the Chicago label, it's as a home for abstracted guitars, moody soundscapes and occasionally spiky electronic beats: all very serious, very studious, very intense. Maybe when Bruce Adams and Joel Leoschke founded it in 1993, it could have been pegged as an indie label that tended toward the experimental — but with each release it… more »
