I saw Asobi Seksu about three years ago when my friend opened for them at the Hotel Utah and it makes me happy to see them continually add these subtle changes to their sound. I love this EP (single?) and hopefully something will follow that takes this even further.
Asobi Seksu is based in NYC. I don't know what J-Pop sounds like but K-Pop (Korean) sounds like boy band music. (See My K-Pop List for examples. Specifically 2PM and SS501.)
Asobi Seksu is an American band and they're decidedly more shoegaze/dream pop than J-pop.
I love this band. If you are a fan of Japanese pop or just like great music you should check out this band great sound, great songs great label. I only wish there was more, Check out the other two albums as well they are both top notch and worth downloading.
