Crap music

Moonythewitch

I can see why this is free! Most of it is all crap!

not free?

tn-rudeboy

When I try to download this, I get a message stating "Oops your balance is too low for this purchase." So, since when do you have to have a balance for a FREE GIVEAWAY album? One star, emusic. One star.

It's Free...

Teague

In these days of financial crisis, bailing out banks, Greece being bankrupt and entire cities turning to ghost a free download is a wonderful thing. Thanks Emusic & the contributing artists, I liked it.

Really wish we could rate songs individually

"Butter", "Want You Back", "Wet Rainbow", and "Make the Road By Walking" are the only tunes in this collection that I can recommend to anyone with a clear conscience. I can accept that some people might actually like the insipid, drab filler on the rest of the album, but I will never understand or condone such behavior.

Gateway Drug to Emusic (and more downloads)!

bradwj30

All I can say to Emusic is thank you! This free mix introduced me to Passion Pit and Au Revoir Simone--two of the artists that I have listened to the most in 09! Very eclectic compilation, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have used my own downloads to check out all of these up and coming bands.

If only for De Leon and Menahan Street Band - although the others were interesting too.

Try Tipsy!

JPlatt

I've found a lot of neat artists from this collection. Tops among them, Tipsy, who just amuse the heck out of me. Fun stuff, great price, check it out!

Worth it just for Sleepyhead

somnambulist

I first heard Sleepyhead on the Canadian PSP commercial over the Christmas period (2008). Did not know the name of the song at that time, but now it's one of my favourite tracks! The rest of the album is an interesting mix and (surprisingly for a compliation) all of them are decent tracks! Couple that with it being free... and well - there is no excuse really ;)

Don’t Forget (The Rest of) The Motor City

By John Morthland, eMusic Contributor

Everybody knows Motown was great, but few realize what an incubator the entire City of Detroit was for soul music in its heyday. For each artist on Berry Gordy’s label there were several more just as good who went with another major, or with a smaller, local indie. Some made their names in r&b, vocal groups or gospel before evolving into soul; others started in soul but had their greatest impact in funk. But even… more »

Rising Tide of Female Jazz Singers

By Dan Ouellette, eMusic Contributor

While the legendary voices of such jazz icons as Billie, Ella and Sarah still ring true, subsequent generations of female jazz vocalists have taken the music in new directions, especially in the '90s, ranging from Cassandra Wilson's new-standard caress to Diana Krall's classics with a twist. Taking their lead, young singers over the last decade have been swinging the vocal tradition onto a new plateau with a pop sensibility. In the mix are tunes by… more »

Townfolk Hip-Hop

By Tambi Younes, Label Relations Coordinator

Nirvana and Pearl Jam. This is who you'll hear about when the topic of Seattle's music scene is brought up in a historical context. It makes sense. Alternative music has always been the face of the Seattle scene. But before Kurt and Eddie, there was Ray and Quincy and Jimi. Seattle has soul, and the hip-hop community in the 206 is the living proof. They love their hometown and the music reflects that. "Townfolk Hip-Hop"… more »

Teenage Graceland

By Wayne Robins, eMusic Contributor

After Elvis went into the Army and before the British Invasion, the years 1958-63 were rock's forgotten years. But they were the years that shaped the musical tastes of baby boomers and of acts from the Beatles and Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen and the Ramones. Hear the dance sensations, the one-hit-wonders, the girl groups and doo-wop singers, surfers and rockabilly twangers, the birth of Motown, the evolution of R&B into soul and so much… more »
