Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes worships excess. Diplo likes things concise. Such opposing aesthetics suggest that the producer/remixer famous for partnering with M.I.A. would trash Skeletal Lamping's first single and final track, “Id Engager.” Not so. On the Philly Club Remix, the Philadelphia DJ removes the Eurodisco bassline, accelerates the tempo, adds a stuttering drum rhythm, and accentuates the skittering Afrobeat guitars. Taking Barnes's “I just wanna play with you” lyric literally, Diplo drops everything but the vocals and beat of that section, loops the results, and builds the tension so that the final instrumental refrain rides away on a giddy high. The DJA Remix does indeed spit out the song, feasting instead on Barnes's Prince-ly cries. These results are skeletal, but tasty.
