dreamy weirdness

SonicTooth

keeping his distance from the Souled American stuff that I loved (and still do) all through the 90's. as atmospheric and simple as this might sound on first blush, the album is deceptively interesting and quite distinctive. downloaded it a couple days ago and have had it on repeat here this afternoon during a bizarre mid-April Denver snowstorm. perfect.

slow drift-a-billy

This album leaves me feeling like I'm lost in a floating world. Everything seems to be in slow motion. The closing and ending vocals are otherworldly and bizarre. It creates an atmosphere of a dreamworld around you. I love that feeling. It makes me think of the movie Nell; the made-up songs of the young girl raised in the deep mountains. Great to create Art to. I came to this album after enjoying the River CD for a few years, which completely blew me away. A great mix of sounds. I can't wait to get "Hard Again" as soon as my account refreshes. Love your stuff Scott! Great Artist. You're at the top for me!

A Dusty Dream That Calls You Back

RangDangDoo

I found Scot Tuma's album on the NPR best-of-2008 list: "Viking's Choice: A Year Of Beautiful Noise". This album creates a wheezy dream-like atmosphere, a dark and grainy waltz. Often it feels like windchimes and toy instruments are swaying on a lost freighter. Other times it is like Tom Waits with his gravelly narrative replaced with the musings of an abandoned doll. These scenes are sewn together by plucked guitar and banjo ribbons like John Fahey is our minstrel guide. The cryptic titles and lack of lyrics are offset by shards of colored light to pull at the listener to stay and visit often.
