Almost fabulous
this comes close. Mandy Bernhardt does have a voice to equal Kate Bush, and the strings are dark and resonant, playing well with the percussion on Sakreig, Daar, and Broken Glass. On Palldium, the drums, while creative, get in the way and overpower. Modesty's opening crescendo leaves the score nowhere to go, and it begins to fail. Ultimately, there's lots to like here, but it doesn't seem enough. As to its punk label, this album strays far from some of the darker, more gothic fare in other discs. While I like it, I can't see listening to it and expecting to get more from a second or third listen.
