This isn't really Plaid

ABATHINGAPE

Plaid were formed when Ed Handley and Andy Turner left Black Dog, taking one of the many pseudonym's with them. Despite the 'by Various Artists' this is essentially Black Dog's first album release. Just wanted to clear that up first. The album is a masterpiece of electronic music! The beats, the melodies and the mood is just perfect. I first bought this in, I think, 1993 and listening again recently - it still sounds fantastic! Essential.

Flawless

Ed, Andy, & Ken pre-breakup. Sorting out who did what on this "compilation": Xeper, Discordian Popes, I.A.O. = Ken Downie -- Close Up Over, Balil = Ed Handley -- Atypic, Plaid(on this release) = Andy Turner

Just a brilliant album. And to think i wasn't even sure i liked it on first listen, back in 1993! Boy did it grow on me though. Seriously now - no cherry picking, just download the whole thing and listen repeatedly. You won't be sorry. This album is best appreciated as a whole. I envy those who haven't heard it yet - you're in for a treat!

As with so many genres, from film noir to doo-wop, "intelligent dance music" was named by its fans -- in this case, the tag was codified by a mid-'90s internet listserv that extolled home-listening electronic, the kind of music that was… more »
