Contemporary klezmer virtuosity

The highlight of this album is the stunning virtuoso accordion, clarinet and violin playing on many of the tracks, which combine beautifully with the relatively light-touch contemporary beats. Even the sometimes deliberately (?) cheesey lyrics can forgiven when they suddenly give way to wild instrumental parts. Inspiring!

Fun With Klezmer

There's a lot of Klezmer/Balkan music going around, and most of it is the same ole' same ole': too much oompah-oompah, and not enough oomph! This guy does both. He plays some straight-ahead balkan, as well as some light-hearted, and pretty funky interpretations of the genre(s). A very welcome change from accepted traditional ways of making old music new again.
