The crashiest of all the new crash-poppers, Brooklyn's caUSE co-MOTION! has charm to spare. Their songs, forever peaking at the two minute mark, have a high-kicking energy that constantly threatens to collapse on itself: cymbals crash at seeming random moments, the bass pops and sputters wildly. This, their first EP longer than four tracks, is as winning as anything they've put to tape yet. The Kinks-in-shambles of “Is What You Say What You Mean?” may be the least “together” of any song on Because but it's also oddly the most fun. Maybe by now, that shouldn't seem so odd.
