sleek and elegant

a cohesive, consistent, and mature record. it has a spontaneity and lightness that contrasts nicely with the melancholy of "this is goodbye." i prefer this one--in fact, i can't stop listening to it--but both are uniformly excellent. "bits and pieces" and "hazel" are lots of fun, but "parallel lines," "sneak a picture," and "what it's for" are growers.

I Love It

Dull To Pause or Hazel, Dull To Pause or Hazel, Dull To Pause or Hazel, hhmm can't make up my mind - I'll take both. Another great effort, can't wait for the next one!

I say their best....

What a more adult and mature piece of work. Loved the minimalism of the previous CD's, but this just nails it! Nothing has changed, but it's all different. The feeling, the words, the somber, the occassional back beat is still there.. yeah. But this just better! Love it!

'80's fun and goodness

hoarsefeathers

Wonderful! Nicely done and original, recalling much of the 80's electro synth pop. Great feel. Fun and exciting. Some songs have a sweet and sometimes tender melodies, which I haven't heard in electronic music for some time. Melodic writing seems to be rare in music today in general. It's nice to hear here. Takes me back to my youth.

Continuing where Goodbye left off

OutdoorMiner

More dark seductive synthpop goodness from the group that gave us 2006's masterpiece, So This Is Goodbye. You'll find Begone is not as instantly appealing, and certainly not as good as it's predecessor. Still, there is enough quality on here to make this a worthwhile purchase. For individual songs I'd recommend the opener and "Bits and Pieces".

Adore it.

The JBs take a minute to grow on you. Their music isn't supposed to be as effective as it is, but their minimalist style, blippy beats and syth tones are so subtle and beautiful and unique. "Work" is SO slammin' as a song, gorgeous and sexy with a beat that is much more danceable than their other chill out tracks. BUY IT.

We'll see...

First listen through didn't blow me away like their other recordings did. Perhaps it will grow on me... but it certainly isn't as catchy as the previous efforts. Glad it's on eMusic, though!!!

Who Is…John Talabot

By Philip Sherburne, eMusic Contributor

Fin, the debut album from the Barcelona producer known as John Talabot, marks both an end and a beginning. It caps a period of experimentation, in which he developed his singular voice — a kind of retro-leaning disco/house fusion, super-saturated with color and overflowing with ecstatic energy — across EPs for leftfield dance labels like Permanent Vacation, Young Turks and his own Hivern Disc. But the record also represents a significant step forward for Talabot,… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Taking its title and inspiration from a collaboration between animator/filmmaker Norman McLaren and jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, Begone Dull Care is, at once, the most upbeat and subtle album from Junior Boys yet. At first, these songs seem to lack distinction from one another, but the duo’s painstaking attention to detail and nuance — traits they recognized in McLaren’s work — gradually glints through, however briefly. Other than the hypnotic “Work” and the playfully geeky “Hazel,” the set is punchless, more a pleasant mood album fit for casual background listening, lacking the unnerved tension that runs through the majority of Last Exit and So This Is Goodbye. The most daring aspect of the album is the title, in particular its second word. – Andy Kellman
