Played this twice in 24 hours. Got loads of blues, but this is special. Good production too. Reccommended.

Simply His Best

AndyManCan

This is back when he didn't need to prove he influenced Hendrix or SRV. Didn't need distortion or to play loud. Here he is the master of understated blues guitar. It is a classic & a must-have.

There;s a lot of hoopla about Buddy Guy these days, but I'll take John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters any day. As far as that goes, If you want the best Chicago Blues check out Magic Slim. He's the real deal.

It would be the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me if emusic even CONSIDERED offering one or two (or more overtime) of Buddy Guys' songs as FREEBIES. You can bank on it that I'm DEFINITELY downloading the others. I'm just sayin'!...........? Pretty much good stuff with this guy.

And if he does ham it up too much of the time, perhaps it's because that's the only way a true bluesman can earn a… more »

The guitarist’s first album away from Chess — and to be truthful, it sounds as though it could have been cut at 2120 S. Michigan, with Guy’s deliciously understated guitar work and a tight combo anchored by three saxes and pianist Otis Spann laying down tough grooves on the vicious “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “I Can’t Quit the Blues,” and an exultant cover of Mercy Dee’s “One Room Country Shack.” – Bill Dahl
