My favorite
This is my favorite Xiu Xiu album. It's dark, eclectic, textural, desparate, honest, and exceptionally disturbing. That's how I would describe most of their music anyway, but this album is the one that just makes sense to me.

This album is my favorite too. I love Jamie Stewart's mind with the fire of a gazillion suns. They take some getting used to - they're probably the most experimental and percussive and loudest music i listen to - but if you don't try them, why do you listen to music anyway? i was listening to this alone in my living room one evening and it clicked and it was wonderful to experience.
I think that you have to be in a very particular mood in order to enjoy a Xiu Xiu record, but when you need them there is nothing that comes close. Although they have yet to put together an album that holds up as a whole as well as individual songs such as 'Apistat Commander' or 'I Love the Valley', this album is probably the closest they have come thus far.
I only discovered this band after i moved out of the city they lived in. It's amazing-- if Depeche Mode was suddenly catching on fire and trying to put itself out frantically by pouring honey over their melting faces. honestly-- that's what this cd sounds like. Precious in parts, frantic in others. Still my favorite Xiu Xiu.
