It's October 17th 2011 and I just downloaded tracks 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 11. Pretty good. I had heard of her from back around 2004 so it's been a while. Not as bad as some might make it sound.....but then 7 tracks of 13 is only half an album.
In spite of everything being promised at Tiye's MySpace page, this album is excessively boring. This is today's hip-hop. The mainstream line. 1,636 / 5
I agree with the first reviewer--I immediately thought of Lauryn Hill when I heard this, but I didn't think it was a bad thing at all! It's been that long since I've heard an MC move so deftly between rhyming to singing (with the exception of Phonte!). But Tiye's flow is WAY better and her singing style is smoother--less confrontational, for sure. I would (only if I had to) compare this more to Jean Grae. Ultimately, this effort can stand on its own, and is definitely worth a listen if you like good hip hop. (But if you like your hip hop without "skits," you might want to skip "The Bored Room.")
If you like Tiye, then you'll love Zane One. Tiye sounds too much like Lauren Hill and her lyrics are just trying to get your cash. It's time to wake up people. Don't buy what they're selling.
