A treasure discovery

Kez

I discovered this CD when I was looking for Leonardo Leo compositions. The variety of musical pieces included on this CD is very broad, ranging from Hildegard van Bingen to Mozart. The Leo selection here is just plain gorgeous, as is the Mancini piece which has some lovely exchanges between oboe and voice. The flute/voice interchange in the Bach Easter oratorio is likewise impressive. Dowland and Purcell - also excellent. Especially Purcell's Bid the Virtues, which is a real showstopper. Track 13 by Kozeluch (an unknown composer to me) is a treasure discovery. By the time I got to the Mozart pieces, I was completely transported (and being the baroque girl I am, I was expecting to be less enthusiastic about the Mozart tracks than the rest). That turned out not to be the case, as I liked the last tracks as well as any of the others. The Alleluia is a proper and impressive ending to a gorgeous overall CD. Very highly recommended.
