This is the Tori I expect to HEAR!
i have admired Tori for a very LONG time... this album is WHY!

Despite a few radio singles (in the twilight years for adult album alternative radio circa 2002), this album received little attention. But for those who bought it and held on, one of the most gorgeous, devastating works of art began to emerge. It eclipses even Under the Pink in its beauty and depth, but only those who put in the listening hours this behemoth required were rewarded. Unfortunately, Tori couldn't keep this calibre of songwriting going, and it's been kind of a downhill slope since, but this stands as a masterpiece..timeless, rare and intensely emotional.
This album rocketed into my top 10 on the first listen. I have several other of Tori's albums, and I would say I admired them more than I enjoyed them. But Scarlet's Walk is so much more accessible without being boring or predictable. By the way, just for full disclosure, my top ten includes: Pirates by Rickie Lee Jones, The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle by the Boss, The Hounds of Love by Kate Bush, Hejira by Joni Mitchell, Joshua Judges Ruth by Lyle Lovett, Rumor and Sigh by Richard Thompson, Solitude Standing by Suzanne Vega, Soul Cages by Sting and Lonely Runs Both Ways by Alison Krauss and Union Station.
this is by far, my fave tori cd. i feel as though i am with her on this magical journey. a gem of a cd!
I have been a fan since 'Silent All These Years', and was thrilled to receive this CD in the mail right after it came out. It's Tori Amos road-trip music, and it's positively magical. As the character Scarlet, she moves throughout the country, exploring personalities, landscapes, and ways of being.
I am a fan, but I admit there are some Tori songs I've skipped on other albums. Not so with this one. Not a single bad track. I can listen to this album from start to finish and truly say I've enjoyed it. This is a very approachable album for those who are not necessarily hard-core tori fans. It truly is a journey, and I love listening to it on road trips. Fabulous.
This is her best since Under the Pink, and nothing that she's released since is aas good as this album.
It's very long and milder than you may like from Tori, but lots of great songs. My favorites are 'A sorta fairytale' (a big single), 'Carbon', 'Virginia' and 'Scarlet's walk.' 'Strange' and 'Crazy' are lovely mellow ballads; 'Gold dust' is a gorgeous dramatic ballad; 'Wednesday' and 'Mrs Jesus' are cute; 'Sweet Sangria', 'Vegas' and 'Pancake' have strong rhythm as well as melody (though solo Pancake is much better); 'Taxi ride' is catchy pop.
