Classic Country Coe

EMUSIC-01C4E250

This guy sings a lot of my old classic country favorites. On this album, I particularly like "You Never Even Called Me by My Name", take This Job and Shove It, "This Bottle" and "The Ride".

David Allen Coe: The Real Rhinestone Cowboy

kenph

Coe was one of the leaders of the short lived but refreshing " Progressive Country" movement. These were some of the first country artist to get air play on mainstream AOR radio. I grew up hearing Coe on the Dallas airwaves in the 70's and this brings back memories. This is the single best collection of his best work that I have ever heard. 17 Greatest Hits is the most thorough retrospective assembled of David Allan Coe’s outlaw heyday, containing every one of his biggest hits — including “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” “The Ride,” “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile,” “Willie, Waylon and Me,” “Longhaired Redneck,” and “She Used to Love Me a Lot” — plus a wealth of minor hits and lesser-known album tracks. The result is a comprehensive overview of one of the most respected and admired, if not necessarily popular, country singers of the late ’70s and early ’80s. – Thom Owens
