Webern First Choice
This is a great and classic set. Boulez re-recorded all the music, with more comprehensive details, for Deutsche Gramaphone, but that only equals this earlier collection. There is no weak link here, all the musicians are superbly sensitive and expressive in Webern's music. Boulez has complete control of the orchestral music, and Heather Harper steals the show with her lyrical singing. This is an essential first choice for anyone who enjoys, or is even interested in, Webern.
