Excuse me?

JoeKlondike

JCS was FIRST a rock opera on record which starred Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdelene and Ian Gillan as Jesus. THEN it went to the stage, THEN it went to a movie. The original album rocks this stage cast recording to shame!

Love it: But Poor Quality

Sapshot

I love this and thank eMusic for making it available. However, the sound quality is very poor. I'm not an audiophile, but when playing this digitally, I need to crank the volume to hear it properly. It's useless in a play list, as the difference in quality from most of my other tracks is too great. But for me, it was worth every download. I only hope that a digitally enhanced version is released soon.

Superstar

MannieJo

I met this album in my grandmother's basement. It had been the property of my aunt, a teen when the original musical came out. I listened and listened, and then bought the cassettes, and later bought the CDs, and since those are scratched, will probably download the double album. It has stood the test of time and technology with me. It's the story of Christ, but in a way that seems to speak to me differently.

Now let's see those jazz hands! more »

Show Tunes

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

In terms of sheer bang for your emotional buck, sometimes there's nothing quite like a show tune. What can convey goofy-grinned, on-cloud-9 happiness better than a big lavish production number? And any good drama geek knows that musicals are the perfect places in which to find songs about heartbreak, rage, obsession and despair. From Hollywood musicals to Broadway's best, from composers such as Rogers & Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim, and stars from Judy Garland to… more »
