waaay ahead of its time
Listen, this album, influenced as it supposedly was by My Bloody Valentine, is unbelievably unconventional and adventurous, possibly more so than MBV themselves, no disprespect to Kevin Shields. Deerhoof is putting out albums that sound not unlike this right now, almost 20 years later. Just because of the way my brain works, I'm gonna draw some comparisons: Nirvana's Bleach, Tripping Daisy's I Am An Elastic Fircracker, MBV's Loveless, Blonde Redhead's Misery Of Certain Undamaged Lemons, but also elements of Radiohead and DCFC, among others. Also, the production values seem way better /higher than a lot of 1990s albums, shoegaze or not. Well worth the credits, even the 13-second intro (which, ftr, is almost identical to Radiohead's intro to The Gloaming). Favourite so-called "shoegaze" album ever, hands-down.
