One Version of Original

Caithiseach

For OleDon and any doubters--it's easy to wonder if these songs are original, but they are the album versions, in stereo, recorded for Bang Records at the time they were hits. However, what you heard on the radio was mono mixes of these same tunes--some of the vocals are different, and the arrangements certainly are. Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich produced Neil the way George Martin produced the Beatles; the Beatles' mono mixes are different from the stereo mixes, and ("Let It Be" is a good example), at times the singles differ considerably from the LP. The single mixes are available elsewhere, but these are not ripoff remakes.

The Originals

timevac4

These are all songs that first appeared on the Bang label, which passed to Sony some time ago. If the last reviewer is listening to an old Uni/MCA greatest hits LP, the versions he has are not the originals. They were re-done for Uni. It's why you rarely see a complete collection. The cross licensing is prohibitive.

Not originals

OleDon

The picture of the album has the words "Original Hit Recordings" but the songs you have for downloading are not the originals. I have the album on vinyl LP that I bought when it came out. Most of your 60's and 70's songs are not originals. I realize that it is difficult for you to get the originals because of availability and expense but I am disappointed in eMusic.

Do It

timabouttown

Too much of this doesn't make its way to other anthologies, and it absolutely should. In addition to the ones you know, be sure to check out The Boat That I Row. Neil really does slip into a unique spot between pop and rock. The best was still ahead, but this is still indispensible, an absolute must-have for Neil fans, or anyone interested in the rapid changes in 60s pop. Really really good stuff....

Straight-Forward 60's Pop

stevesmith2

A good collection of great 60's pop songs before the artist's style became bombastic. Six of these tunes made the top 20 (Cherry, Cherry; Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon; Thank the Lord for the Night Time; You Got to Me, Kentucky Woman & I Got The Feeling)with several others made famous by other artists (Red Red Wine & I'm a Believer).

The Politic Melodic: A Campaign Song History

By Yancey Strickler, eMusic Contributor

In ways that grow more important by the day, the 1972 presidential contest between incumbent Republican Richard Nixon and Democrat George McGovern has dictated the tone, style and execution of every election since. It birthed the modern-day primary format; it defined and honed the press 'approach to all political coverage; it featured the most effective use of the presidency itself as a campaign asset; and, finally, even in defeat, McGovern's campaign dramatically shifted every campaign's… more »
