The Features, Some Kind of Salvation
2009 | Label: 429 Records

Tennessee-based band the Features has been kicking around their amalgamation of Southern boogie and Anglophilic rock since 1997. Bands like Kings of Leon have parlayed this rural American charm into big UK stadium success, but the Features’ charms are subtler. Check “Foundation’s Cracked” with its fluttering vocals and jaunty bass, or the rollicking album highlight “The Drawing Board” complete with joyously honking horn section.

ROCK SALVATION !!!

ghettoass

The Features played their first show outside of their garage (in Fayetteville, TN - if memory serves) at my coffee shop (The Chameleon Cafe) in Murfreesboro TN near twenty years ago - that night I and every other lucky sob in that room were blown away - this many years later they still make my toes curl - Download, turn all the way up, and ENJOY - thanks guys

Both reviews suck.

They aren't from Nashville, and they couldn't sound less like Kings of Leon if they tried. If I sucked that much at my job I'd be fired, record critics. Anyway, The Features are amazing. I've seen them live more times than I can count, but I've been living in this shit state for so long and there's only like five good bands from around here. Support them as much as you possibly can, for the good of this godforsaken death trap, I beseech you.

Very Surprised

At how good this album is. They remind me of the Format with a southern vibe.

Incredible album, top to bottom. Don't pick and choose, just get the whole thing. Very surprised these guys are still under the radar.

Not Psychedelic - Just GREAT ROCK MUSIC

EMUSIC-00B43D48

Psychedelic? NO. Related to Of Montreal? HARDLY. While the band itself has used the psychedelic tag, I just don't think it fits. This is southern USA indie rock. Well crafted songs, immaculately performed. The sometimes wild and whirling keyboards remind me of early Elvis Costello and the Attractions. This is The Features best and most mature album to date. Standout songs to my ear are: Off Track, Lions and GMF. It's really pretty damn great from start to finish though so you won't go wrong downloading the whole thing. Only the track "Concrete" sounds a bit out of place.

Features open it up

EMUSIC-00221F50

This album is full of pulsing guitars and horns, as well as slower rollicking tunes that keep the vibe churning- (#1 is in trailer for Extract)

This band never disappoints -- there is an awful lot to like here. Very versatile band. Check them out.

some kind of awesome.

Start to finish this album enthralls, entertains, and will not disappoint. Well conceived, and oddly enough, the lead singers great voice is a mix between Modest Mouse and Rod Stewart, and it totally Works! check it out.

Underrated Band

Jimmy3Sticks

I can't believe they are not bigger. Awesome album without a bad song, but favorites are 2,5, and 12. Contrast EP also highly recommended, as is the rest of their catlog if you can find it.
