Re-Master All Huskers
It's not a new request. I'm no audiophile either but,please. For the sake of the kids who hear Husker did this and that. Mp3s squash the awful original production into an even worse product. This is not a slight on E music either. Come on Bob,Grant,Greg... it's your legacy. Having said that, I always felt that Metal Circus was their best produced output, along with the 'eight miles high'single
Liquid Metal Guitar
First time I heard Real World, I couldn't believe it (1983). Hair metal seemed wimpy and pointless from there on in. Iron Maiden could keep playing Dungeons and Dragons with guitars for all I cared. Its Not Funny Anymore has a great pop riff, Diane is truly frightening, and so on. This is a great introduction to Husker and was a great challenge to 'heavy' metal at the time.

It's been years since I last heard this EP (12 inches of vinyl, faster speed means less music with more detail possible) but I clearly remember five of the seven songs on this release. First of The Last Calls, Diane & It's Not Funny Anymore are the obvious classics, but there's not a bum cut in the bunch. Yeah, you'll have to buy the whole thing; I'd suggest that anyway as everything on this is worth buying.

The first hints of what Husker Du Would Become
With Diane and It's Not Funny Anymore, it should have been clear that Husker Du would be a force to be reckoned with. These two songs alone are worth the price of admission, but the whole album is quite enjoyable. It doesn't have quite the impact or weight of Zen Arcade, nor the instant attraction of New Day Rising, but it's a collection of strong songs from a band that was struggling their way through to a truly original sound. Don't start here, but come back when you've already gotten New Day Rising, Zen Arcade, and Flip Your Wig (probably in that order); you probably won't be able to get enough Husker Du by that point. I never have, and I've been listening for nearly two decades now.
don't whine: spend $3 & just get the record
This is a great 80's indie record with at least three classic tracks in First of The Last Calls, Diane & It's Not Funny. Grant Hart ( who I know could use the dough) & Bob Mould wrote some great songs, and released them in this specific order for you to check out. People online who claim to like a band, yet whine about buying the band's actual record simply don't get it. The single download situation partly dates back to original contract issues from when the labels & musicians themselves in 1983 never imagined or intended these songs to be sold individually as downloads. They made a record as a now extinct partnership and the SST label owns the work & owes that performing entity based on album unit sales, not mp3 sales. If yer feeling thrifty, don't bitch, just grab all 23 tracks of the masterpiece called Zen Arcade for the price of only 12 downloads.
"It's Not Funny Anymore"
...is a great song and hints at the more tuneful/less discordant side of Husker that will emerge on New Day Rising and, even more prominently, on Flip Your Wig. It stinks that you can't download the one track. I've got the rest on vinyl and would like "It's Not Funny" as an MP3. (Note to reviewer who says I'm whining: I already gave the band their dough when I bought it on vinyl. Now I just want the one song for my iPod!)
