A favorite I thought was lost to obscurity

straintest

This is a seriously amazing album. Honestly, songs like "Mysterious Girl" and "Luminous Bodies" (aka "Luminous Babies" according to eMusic) rank among the best things rock and roll had to offer in the late 90s. I have no affiliation with the band. I stand to gain nothing from this. And I tell you: this is genius.

Finally Available!

Discus by Strapping Fieldhands is one of the best LPs of the past 20 years. I've had it on vinyl since it's release in 1994 and don't believe it's been available on CD before now. Songs #1, 2, 9, 10, and 14 were constantly making it onto my mixed tapes throughout the '90s. A steal at only 12 credits. This is your chance to own a perfect LP. As perfect as GBV's Bee Thousand? Perhaps...perhaps not. Definitely a bit more strapping.

This Philadelphia group came out of the post-punk lo-fi scene of the early ’90s and produced a string of indie recordings that draw on British folk and psychedelia, Pere Ubu, and Red Crayola-style quirkiness. This album is a low-tech affair which experiments with some unorthodox instrumentation and has at its heart a delicate and crafty song sensibility that brings to mind Tall Dwarves and Television Personalities. – Dean McFarlane
