The name of the band and the cover art would have you expect a dark album, but you would never guess what particular style of darkness to expect. And it turns out to all be quite unexpected. The album weaves in and out of different grooves and feels, preserving it's dark edge throughout, while using a variety of instrumentation and arrangements. Awesome from beginning to end.
Dark, moody, melancholic beauty... many of these songs will strike a chord in the listener for sure... almost crosses over to movie soundtrack territory... some of these songs would certainly fit a dark ominous movie
I have an unabashed, gleeful love of melancholy, which this album delivers like a bewitched lover. For example "Wasteland" croons, "You're here to torture me. I've come to hell for you. I'm not leaving till I tear out your heart." The music aptly completes the theme with psychedelic-tinged rock at times and some appropriately ominous sounds at others. The heavy use of the singing saw on "Iri Sulu" was the only miss for me.
