Bustling in with a backbeat so chunky it's like John Bonham trying to outdo "Lust For Life," "Yes!," the opening track of Colourmusic's album of the same name, is a soul-lifting onslaught of chanted slogans and fuzzy guitars that blinds all critical faculties with pure sunshine. Imagine the Beta Band and the Polyphonic Spree playing at the same time, then double it. It'd be a weary heart that didn't join in with the quartet's almost-crazed vows: "gonna change my world, gonna live my life, gonna love the machine, gonna kiss your mouth".
"Put In A Little Gas" blends choir sections with the weirdness of Syd Barrett's "Bike", while "Spring Song" — in which they're "blowing bubbles in the air" — is a frantic fairground-ride with the 60s hippie vibe of Traffic — it's got horns, whispered vocals and a marching-band climax, cramming more effective, punchy ideas into three minutes than most bands manage in thirty. It's all about the big affirmative, and Colourmusic are a heavy happening with a feather-light touch.
