You don't really hear the blues played and recorded like this any more. I was attracted to this by virtue of the fact that it was one of the last recordings of Stephen Bruton before the throat cancer finally took him away. His guitar playing is as good as ever on this album. However, I am also very impressed at the enthusiasm and passion flowing from each track and Texas Sheiks is a very welcome addition to the digital library.

The real deal

Geoff seems to be as genuine as they come. His explorations of base root music are heartfelt and fascinating. This group of Sheiks is lively. The music truly comes alive. It's the kind of thing that makes you smile and you put it on like a familiar old shirt or sweater. Don't just listen once! Let it sink in. It'll stay with you.
