Another stellar album. Saw him concert in Lexington, KY recently. Probably my favorite show ever. How is not a a major star I have no idea. All off his albums on Emusic are great. Wish Emusic had the album "Concussion", but can't go wrong with any of his albums.
We're close enough to the end of the year for people to be thinking about top ten lists. Here's one for the books. Matthew Ryan never disappoints and, amazingly, keeps outdoing himself. Listen up, emusic editors, this album is a "pick" if I've ever heard one.
Matthew Ryan is one of the best singer-songwriters of our times, and this album is another excellent example of that. This bears all the hallmarks of a typical Ryan album: strong songs with memorable melodies, a voice that expresses both world weariness and passion, and lyrics that reach for hope but that are tempered by sadness, grief, and loss. The sound and flow of this album are reminiscent of Ryan's previous album "From A Late Night High Rise," with edgier electronic tinged rock cuts mixed with sparse acoustic songs. If you're already a fan of Ryan's work you should already be clicking download for the whole album. If you're new to Ryan, I recommend starting with his 2003 album "Regret Over the Wires," which is still my favorite, but this is an excellent album, up to Ryan's usual standards.
