Just heard this on Radio 4..well think it was this show,but anyway, it was so clever, funny, poignant and made me cry (White Wine in the Sun..if you love your family but are often separated), gotta have all his stuff..thanks to eMusic for both albums, haven't checked how much they overlap, but don't care anyway!
I get that everybody laughs, but actually listen to the artist. Minchin is a truly great jazz pianist. He has a haunting voice. His lyrics are insightful, thought provoking, and yeah... Damned funny. It is a shame that mainstream America is afraid of wit and in turn opts for stupid-funny. If this were not the case, Tim would be a god here. I hate that I would have to go to Europe or Australia to see him live.
Just great funny stuff. Brilliant songwriter! Few musical-comins try to write and perform comedic songs that still stand up as sSONGS when the laughing fades. You might remember a joke, but a well-crafted tune (like these) worms into your head and lives there. Great stuff.
Why this guy is not huge here in the US is beyond me. This is my favorite of his albums. Do yourself a favor and download. Not the album to play in front of Mom, but you and your friends will fall out of your chairs with laughter.
