great compilation
"Once I had a Woman" has one of the best transitions from mellow blues to all out feeling it I have ever heard.

this is the music jimi's was meant to play, this is blues made for jimi's voice and playing style.
I totally agree with the 'Haines' review about BUBS. this version is absolutely incredible. sublime musical expression. one of my favorite recordings period! I am so surprised when critics don't comment on this track bc to me it is clearly outstanding. an improvisation that throws out so many ideas in so many directions, and dimensions, and colors. amazing!
I bought this CD years ago and really like it but the thing that bugs me is that Jimi didn't do vocals for Born Under a Bad Sign (or on his version of Sunshine of Your Love for that matter).
Make that "Great". 12 credits for 11 songs?
Track two on this album may be my favorite Hendrix recording. It is simply astonishing. The range of tones and textures he deploys, and the sheer inventiveness of his phrasing, rival any performance of his on record. The gorgeous, repetitive bassline anchors the whole thing in darkness and heaviness. Absolute badassedness.
I burned myself out on Hendrix years ago but of all the Hendrix recordings this is the one that I occasionally come back to. Not just a great Hendrix album but a great BLUES album.
This is raw, vintage Hendrix blues guitar at it's finest. I bought this on CD 15 years ago and have nevered tired of it. Get this. You won't be sorry!
