Great sounding; priced reasonably.

Hey Hey They're The Monkees

madformusic

Call them the prefab four if you want but they recorded some excellent singles. What's funny is that Davy Jones is supposedly the lead singer but almost all the great 45s they did have Mickey Dolenz singing lead.

Monkeys bring back old memories!

musicloverforlife

I have been waiting for months for emusic to have The Monkeys' CD's. With great song writers like Carol King and Neil Diamond, the Monkeys were destine to do well. This is a real deal! I especially enjoyed hearing the less well known, but terrific song, Shades of Gray!

Great Collection!

There are some essentials that I had to get from the other albums, but this makes a great start.

Basic Good Pop

AuntieLolo

If you look at the composers (Carole King, Neil Diamond, etc.) you can see why these songs made it to the top 40. If you want an idea of what basic good pop sounded like, not the iconic game changers, this is a good sample. These are the tracks that you want to own 1,2,3,5,6,12,14,18,20. That saves you 3 downloads. I was the target age when they were on TV and these are the songs I remember and like.

Time changes one's perspective.

Worth the wait!

peterbigpc

I am a big fan of The Monkees but I never found a single album that had all the songs that I wanted or that I didn't have to buy the whole album to get them. Well this album was worth the wait because it is complete and although I didn't have to buy the whole album, I did!

With such a vast array of Monkees compilations easily available, another best-of would seem unnecessary. But on closer inspection, Rhino’s Best of the Monkees is a superior set, improving on the label’s 20-track Greatest Hits released in the mid-’90s. Two songs recorded during the MTV reunion during the ’80s — “That Was Then, This Is Now” and “Heart and Soul” — have been deleted, making room for excellent heyday material: “What Am I Doing Hangin’ ‘Round?,” “Your Auntie Grizelda,” “Papa Gene’s Blues,” “She,” and “Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow).” Keeping in line with Rhino’s infinite care pertaining to Monkees reissues, this collection has informative liner notes, lots of pictures, and a bonus five-song karaoke disc that’s a lot of fun as well. – Al Campbell
