Evocative

Love love love the instrumentals in this album. Unlike many reviewers, I don't mind the singing (but was not familiar with previous albums). This album is great for winding down and the more you listen to it, the better it gets. It evokes a sense of melancholy and I actually find it more interesting than the previous album (which I downloaded out of love for the Chorus of Storytellers album). You can't go wrong with this album....

Ruined by Vocals

I always loved the beautiful instrumental music of the Album Leaf. This album, unfortunately, while still retaining the beautiful instrumentals, is ruined by the presence of vocals.

I stumbled upon The Album Leaf and am grateful I did. One of my favorite songs on the album is 'Falling From the Sun' which has singing on it, and I think it adds so much. That's 'Why sing'. If you don't like the singing then go somewhere else.

Why sing?

The refreshing thing about "Post-rock" is that you didn't have to hear a lame singer sing lame lyrics. Post-rock sure ain't what it used to be. Guys, please stop hemming in your great sounds with dumb words. There are enough people out there telling their dumb stories. Instrumental music has a freeing quality. That's the appeal.

Not bad at all!

There are some good tracks on here - like Until the last.

For his fifth album, A Chorus of Storytellers, the Album Leaf mastermind Jimmy LaValle decided to make some changes to the old formula his solo project stuck with. Most notably, LaValle recorded the album with a live band, rather than going at it alone with the help of a series of contributors. The result comes off feeling more alive and organic than his previous work, while maintaining the blend of ambient electronics and careful, post-rock layering that will definitely please fans of past records from the Album Leaf. – Gregory Heaney
