Fertile instrumentation and soulful vocals

TheAlternativeOne

Fertile instrumentation (horns/strings/guitars) and soulful vocals by front-man Kyle Morton make this an exceptional album and one I listen to over and over again. There’s a hint of Bright Eyes to their sound but only a hint. This is truly unique and fun. My favorite cut is the poignant Old Haunts, New Cities. Great harmonies, haunting guitars, and a story (for a change). P.S. Also, Typhoon had a song on the American re-make of the BBC program Being Human, which is where I first heard them (using the Shazam app on my iPhone).

See them live, download this album

Saregnia

I went to school down in Salem, OR where this band makes their home and they are indeed one of the best bands you've never heard of. Download this album, find their first self-titled album, and get their EP released a year or two before this album (Dearborn Sessions). They tour up and down the I-5 corridor on the west coast - hopefully they get more than that! Even with how many artists contribute to their recording (sometimes upward of 7 per track and even live) the sound on all is cohesive and catching. Each release gets better and better.

A 5 star chance finding

LLama

Like the review title says, found this by accident and it's excellent all the way through.

Tsunami Of Typhoons

Evil2win

Careful now! There are a few "Typhoon" named bands out there (e.g. - the Latin one, the hip-hop one...) but this is by far the best one ... and probably the one you're looking for.

What We're Listening To: April 2011

By eMusic Editorial Staff, eMusic Contributor

Remember, during the halcyon days of the video store, the "Staff Picks" shelf? We're taking that principle and running with it: eMusic is proud to present this regular, monthly roundup of our editors 'and members 'current faves. Whether it came out 30 years… more »
