Baths, Cerulean
Label: anticon / IODA

Toro Y Moi fans, take note: 21 year-old Will Wiesenfeld is making a splash with his newest electronic project, Baths. The 21 year old lets his influences run wild on his debut album: elements of dubstep, IDM, hip hop and even his own shimmery vocals find their way into the mix. But the ultimate sound of Cerulean, its heart and soul, is uniquely Baths's own.

Good sounds

Superdelegate

If you're complaining that it's too much compression for you I think you sound like someone back in the day complaining the guitars had too much distortion. Pushing things can sound good if done right. This music sort of yanks my eardrums from the inside out haha.

side chain compression

sheatheman

everyone is chiming in about it so i figured i would too. listen to lone and kona triangle and keaver & brause. they do it right. this is just, i don't know. the production is good. i think baths is an emo kid at heart. on a side note, "Plea" sounds like an Enya-Four Tet collab sung by mgmt.

Doesn't stand up.

halfwinter

I think this is mediocre song writing masked in over production. I hear old people complain about over compression all the time and generally I disagree, but the use of side-chaining here is egregious. If my nephew made this in his basement I'd be proud of him for playing around, but this is disappointing work from a signed artist.

ridiculously gorgeous

atoastedheart

this whole album is just so pretty. it's got a bit of aphex twin, ulrich schnauss, and matmos influence, but with more sampling type stuff inserted in. "aminals" and "apologetic shoulder blades" are the standout tracks.

francn

My Album of the year thus far

DarthBlitzer

It's got the best parts of Flying Lotus and Grizzly Bear.

JumbleMumbleRumble

Eclactic

It's so varied that you forget where you are going, but at 21 years old he can afford to not know where he's going...maybe at 31 years old he'll find out!

I like it

Answerve

a cross between crispy ambulance, floating waffles and a tribe called quest. check it out.

floaty, nice...

JSpaceman

like boards of canada listening to grizzy bear, while ulrich schnauss and kid koala conduct choir practice in the next room...

Too much Side-chain compression!

I mean, come on. Everyone's doing it, but this is taking it over the top.
