Sounds Beautiful Like The Truth

Over the last couple of years Trek Life has toured Europe with Oddisee and Diamond District, advised Mello Music Group as a label, and continued his own work with Timeless Music. He began endorsing Acrylick clothing and his songs found placement on Black Milk's "Caltroit" and Scion's CD Sampler V.11. Television and film also picked up Trek's music as he found his songs placed on such shows as MTV's "The Hills" and "G's to Gents", as well as a cameo spot in the documentary film "Freestyle". In the Spring of 2010, Trek released a free EP with West Coast producer J. Bizness titled "Rhymes Within Reason". In the months before ""Everything Changed Nothings" highly anticipated August 2010 release with Mello Music Group, ESPN picked up the lead single "So Supreme" for their NBA Finals highlights of the Lakers vs. Celtics, and then again for their Stanley Cup coverage.

A new classic.

Trek Life speaks from the perspective of a grown man who has found his place and holds it. The history of growing up in this music is evident as each track has layers of meaning and reference. The beats are all done by Oddisee, except "What It Is" which Hudson Mohawke produced. Oddisee is a DC producer (Diamond District) who came out to Cali to work with Trek for the project and fused his style around the influence of being there and listening to it throughout his lifetime. The result is G-Funk infused heaviness. Some of the tracks take a jazzy loop through hip hop, and others bring a generous helping of soul. The guests are Trek or Oddisee affiliates like Olivier Daysoul, who sings throughout the project, and DJ Buddy who lays cuts. The result is a ride through the Nation's Capital if it were on the beach in LA. An Everyman's Warren G.

Michael Tolle founded Mello Music Group in 2007, after he graduated from the University of Arizona and released a series of mixtapes as a college deejay. As indicated by the label's current roster, Tolle's taste in rap music hasn't really changed. As he's plucked notable, under-the-radar artists from Detroit, Los Angeles and Atlanta, Tolle's also turned select members of D.C.'s Low Budget Crew into flagship acts — producer-emcee Oddisee being the most well-known. And so,… more »
