The real country of alt country

SmilesBFR

Country music is supposed to reveal the fluctuations of everyday life. That said I hate mainstream country b/c they are always complaining. I like Deer Tick's ability to represent all aspects of what is means to live a human life from day to day. This album deserves respect but if you are not into "slow" music that references introspective thought you might not want to download this album, although most of Deer Tick's stuff has a slower tone. Keep coming back though, Deer Tick is sure to surprise us again, of that I am certain.

Disappointment

afeicht

I love their first album but have not been a huge fan of the last two. This one was a pretty big disappointment for me. Other than 20 Miles, there was nothing to keep me coming back to it.

A serious album

travcart

This may not be for everyone, I'll admit. That being said, I love music, and have seldom been touched so deeply by an album. McCauley and these guys are doing something right.

A Bit Melancholy

david.sorin

Not quite Born on Flag Day, not due to quality but due to mood. Manic depression is more interesting than plain old depression.

Excellent

Poetic and deeply felt by this listener...

a departure

This album isn't quite as honky-tonk rockin' as their previous stuff. It's dragged down by too many piano ballads and mid-tempo slogs.

sweet, ripe, summer whiskey nights

A gorgeous album. Mange, Jesus, Blood, Sad, Angels, goodbye... need I go on? Why not be honest and say this album makes it feel okay to feel everything that you do. - even satisfied. While not in a meloncholy state, the balmy, thick air of this record is like a blanket of authenticity. For which I welcome and am grateful for.

heavy duty depression

This one for fans of the band...lacks any upbeat rock N roll to break the downward mood swing of this album. Still real good stuff, great songwriting but best enjoyed with old love letters and a bottle of red.

A step in the wrong direction

I was really looking forward to this because of how much I loved Born on Flag Day. I found Black Dirt to lack the energy of Flag Day. I like my Deer Tick a little more raucous.
