The album might not be as good as Bewitched, but it is very strong nonetheless. Chinatown, in particular, is a perfectly constructed pop song, on par with Heart of Glass by Blondie or I Am A Scientist by Guided By Voices. If that's doesn't move you, then you should go away from this place.
It's on Rolling Stone's Best Albums of the 90's for a reason - postmodern bliss! Luna has a trademark loungy, smirky sound, and here they really find their groove. Every Luna album has sublime moments, but there are more than usual here.
Maybe you had to be there, but this was pretty much my most-played album of 1996. For what that's worth. Plentiful drug references . . . maybe that was why.
You can definitely hear the trademark guitar and it fits well with this band.
