John Digweed, Structures
Label: Bedrock

The latest mix package from UK progressive house legend John Digweed shows the DJ and producer mixing up the works of some of house music's best, from Wehbba, John Daly, Nic Fanciulli to Marc Marzenit and, of course, Digweed himself. Digweed's sound here, as it has been of late, is warmer, lusher, and more inviting than it has been in the path: soapy synths glisten and glimmer around the quietly pulsing 4-on-the-floor beats, lending the whole mix a pleasingly tactile, ear-tickling quality that ensures these beats work just as well in headphones as they will in a club.

Yes, I agree, but ...

Now that I own this version, and now that I see how brilliant this guy is, I really wish I owned the full version. Ideally, emusic could have two options: the $5.99 option for shorter pieces and a more expensive option with the mixes. Having said that ... I cannot complain about the $5.99 price for the limited version. I am VERY happy with it despite what I'm missing.

A Deal, indeed!

There's a scary number of slick tracks in here. Really. This is a fantastic deal for this much high calibre house. Thanks John Digweed, and thanks eMusic.

Great Stuff-Don't Buy It Here!

Tuco

Great tracks, but as stated by others, 3 full mixes (each over an hour long)are missing. In this instance, I suggest buying elsewhere.

A Steal

P-Pollie

Anyone into house and progressive is a fool not to be an emusic member, with deals like this. 12 downloads for 40 tracks of some of Digger's best selection of house (in a long time) is amazing value. The tracks here are a great sample of Digweed's latest direction change, away from minimal tech, towards a deeper, more progressive sound. There's no cheesy-beats-over-diva-vocals here, just dark, sexy house for grown-ups. It's hard to know where to recommend you start. How about fast forwarding to track 1, and playing from there.

unmixed?

rdavis

This is a download for DJs, not for someone looking for Digweed mixes. Despite being described in the feature review above as "the latest mix package" from Digweed, this is an unmixed version of this 2-CD set. The three full, hour-long mixes that are available for download elsewhere (tracks 1, 2 and 36) are not here. Download only if you want full, unmixed tracks. The three Digweed Structures mixes are excellent and really showcase how good these tracks are. But you'll have to get them elsewhere.

They Say All Music Guide

A leading light on the progressive house scene, John Digweed brings together more electronic music from his Bedrock production house on this collection. Structures features 33 tracks selected and programmed by Digweed, including songs by Mutant Clan, Rowdent, Wiretappeur, Saints & Sinners, King Unique, and Guy J, as well as new remixes from Digweed, Nick Muir, John Daly, Pete Heller, Marco Bailey, and Wehbba. The original release also included a DVD featuring a documentary on John Digweed, and footage of Digweed spinning at an event in Miami in early 2010. – Mark Deming
